Meet Maynapa Chanthanouvong

first recipient of hoa nguyen Memorial scholarship

Maynapa Chanthanouvong, David Douglas Valedictorian, received the inaugural $1,000 Hòa Nguyễn Memorial Scholarship in June 2026 as a graduating senior of David Douglas High School. During her time at DDHS, Maynapa demonstrated outstanding leadership and a commitment to community service, serving as president of Key Club, participating in Student Council, and volunteering with Wonderfolk in East Multnomah County.

Maynapa is now attending Pomona College in Claremont, California, where she is interested in studying public policy analysis and is considering pursuing a law degree. Reflecting on her goals for college, Maynapa shared:

"I'd like to build meaningful connections to better understand people's stories, background, and motivations in life. Ultimately, with my connections I'd like to become a better advocate and leader in the sphere of community development."

Maynapa's commitment to listening, building relationships, and advocating for others beautifully reflects Hòa Nguyễn's legacy as a champion for students, education, and public service.
